How to trim an audio file online
- Load your file — drop any MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC anywhere on this page.
- Select the part to keep — drag the handles on the waveform to mark the start and end.
- Preview — hear exactly what you selected before exporting.
- Download — export as lossless WAV or compact MP3.
Why this trimmer is faster than upload-based cutters
Most online audio cutters upload your file to a server, process it remotely, then make you download the result. This one decodes and cuts the audio directly in your browser with the Web Audio API — zero upload time, no size caps, and your file stays completely private on your device. The waveform is downsampled to ~2,000 peaks before drawing, so even hour-long recordings render smoothly.
Common uses
- Cutting silence or dead air from the start and end of voice memos.
- Extracting a quote or highlight from a podcast or lecture.
- Isolating the chorus of a song before making a ringtone.
FAQ
Does trimming reduce audio quality?
Exporting as WAV is lossless — the selected samples are copied bit-for-bit. Exporting as MP3 re-encodes at 192 kbps, which is transparent for most listeners.
Is there a length or size limit?
No hard limit. The file is decoded into your device's memory, so very long recordings depend on your device. We warn above 200 MB but still try.
Can I cut out the middle of a track?
This tool keeps the selected region. To remove a middle section, trim the part before it, then the part after it, and join both clips with our Merge Audio tool.
