How to add reverb to audio online
- Drop your file — vocals, guitar, podcast clips, anything.
- Pick a space — five rooms modeled as impulse responses, from a 2-second bathroom slap to a 4.5-second cathedral wash.
- Set the blend — the Mix knob balances dry and wet signal with an equal-power curve; pre-delay keeps the source clear in front of the tail.
- Export — WAV or MP3, with the full reverb tail rendered past the end of the file.
Real convolution, not a cheap echo
This is a convolution reverb — the technique studio plugins use. Each space is an impulse response (a fingerprint of how a room decays) that gets mathematically convolved with every sample of your audio through the Web Audio API's ConvolverNode. The result has the density and frequency roll-off of a real space rather than the metallic ring of a simple delay loop. The Plate preset is brighter and denser, modeled after the studio plate reverbs used on classic vocal records; the Cathedral preset rolls off highs the way stone and air do.
Quick recipes
- Natural voice-over — Small Room, mix 15–25%, pre-delay 20 ms.
- Classic vocal sheen — Plate, mix 30%, pre-delay 40 ms.
- Cinematic trailer — Cathedral, mix 50%+, pre-delay 0.
- Slowed + reverb aesthetic — use the one-page Slowed & Reverb tool instead.
FAQ
What kind of reverb is this?
Convolution reverb — each preset is an impulse response describing how a space decays, convolved with your audio via the Web Audio API's ConvolverNode. It's the same architecture as studio convolution plugins.
What does pre-delay do?
It inserts a short gap (0–200 ms) between the dry sound and the reverb tail. 20–40 ms keeps vocals upfront and intelligible while still placing them in the space.
Which preset should I use?
Small Room for subtle life on voice, Plate for bright vocal sheen, Large Hall and Cathedral for music and cinematic washes, Bathroom for short lo-fi character.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
No — the convolution runs on your device. Your file never leaves your browser.
